Superheroes

Did you ever want to be a super hero? If so, who would you choose? With so many great mystical powers to be granted and so many ideas, how can you limit yourself to just one?

Some of my earliest memories are about how much I loved unique and unusual shows, science fiction, superhero, fantasy. Mighty Isis was one of my favorites, she wore a great headpiece, a white toga and she could call on the forces of nature and flew!!! Electra Woman and Dyna Girl brings back some great memories, but I'm not sure how many of you would even know who they were. And of course, the ultimate in "known" early superhero women, there was Lynda Carter and Wonder Woman! OMG - she had an invisible jet, GREAT bracelets that deflected bullets and a magic lasso that would make anyone tell the truth! And we found out she was a Princess too, how cool is that??? The fabulous patriotic colors didn't hurt either, although I was never crazy about the skimpy outfit, I loved the boots! There was Captain Marvel, often confused as "Shazam" because it was the word spoken that brought forth Captain Marvel, and he could fly and taught lessons to those watching.

While in a completely different venue, Ultraman was a protector along with Johnny Sokko and his flying robot! You had the poor Incredible Hulk, I'm thinking who would want that power that you could barely control? I'm sure there's someone who thinks that would be coolness. Or would you rather have mechanical parts and be the Six-Million-Dollar-Man or the Bionic Woman?
Getting into the later years we've seen the adaptation of really great ideas into very different shows like the Power Rangers (Jungle Fury is my FAVORITE!!) who ultimately did 2-3 seasons of many different plot lines and different powers and costume variations which worked very well for the Franchise and was very successful in the "live-action" genre. And who can forget Barry, the live-action FLASH series which actually featured an ultra-intelligent uber-geek scientist FEMALE who was his awe-inspiring sidekick? Who wouldn't love to be her, smart, pretty, and have access to a super hero (not to mention the sexy accent)?

The recent past gave us Heroes, which was a first-season MEGA Hit and I loved every second of the first season! Unfortunately with the writers' strike and poor scripts, the show fast turned into a huge letdown, but I still can't forget how awesome they did the first season! I totally enjoyed the saturday morning Kamen Rider, Dragon Knight show, how many of you have actually seen any episodes? Lois and Clark, the adventures of Superman, Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dark Angel just to name a few more.
How about Mutant X? Another considered "campy" show which I loved and now am relegated to watch when I work out at home!!! We've progressed into the movie genre with such titles as X-men and Thor and Green Lantern. I'm sure I've missed naming quite a few, but this wasn't about a comprehensive list of superheroes past and present. It was about thinking beyond your barriers, pushing the limits of your imagination and wondering some of the most fantastic things for yourself, dream big!

If dreaming made you a superhero, I would have already been so many different things...I often think about what it would feel like to have a mystical/magical power and do great things...

So if you had to choose only one (and it can't be one that can grab multiple powers), what super power would YOU pick?

  1. I'm not sure I can narrow it down to just one super power. I have several ordinary unsuper powers that serve me well already. I might hurt somebody if those powers were enhanced!

I want to beautify the area where I live, and with relative success, I can grow a pretty garden. I want to be able to be a friend to nature, and I can keep food and water out for the birds, squirrels, and the occasional toad or possum. I want to be able to bring the occasional smile to a friend who's in need of one, and I already have that power, usually.

I think I'll just leave the superhero business to those who heed the call!
