Words Fascinate....

Words, do some of them have any “impact” on you in an emotional way? Are there some that you “like”? Are there some that you “dislike”? Are there some of them that make you “LOL”?

Words are fascinating! They can express so many different emotions in so many different ways! One of my favorites, you ask? Poignant! The “g” is silent, but it’s spelled with a “g” – how cool is that? What does it mean?

poign•ant
[poin-yuh nt, poi-nuh nt] adjective
1. keenly distressing to the feelings: poignant regret.
2. keen or strong in mental appeal: a subject of poignant interest.
3. affecting or moving the emotions: a poignant scene.
4. pungent to the smell: poignant cooking odors.

Don’t like the word, but like the meaning you want to get across? Try a “synonym” – Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com have become two of my favorite websites. Lost for a word – give it a TRY!

One of my next favorites is “giggle”!
I cannot say or think that word without smiling and, most of the time, making a small giggle noise! It’s a little embarrassing sometimes! It just “tickles my fancy” so to speak (of course!). A very interesting “tidbit” (another FAVorite!) about the word giggle – it ends in the suffix of verbs “-le” which has its own meaning – are you ready? How many said “NO!” – oh well! Too bad! Here it is anyway! LOL

-le
— suffix forming verbs
denoting repeated or continuous action, often of a diminutive nature:
twiddle ; wriggle ; wrestle

Don’t you find that totally interesting? Ok, maybe not! But words ARE fun! You just have to find the right ones for YOU! Here’s a few to try:

Abasement –
NO! It is not the room built into the foundation of your home! LOL
It is a noun meaning to Humiliate, dishonor, defame or belittle!

Aesopian –
NO! It is not something you wash a child’s mouth out with when they are bad! LOL
It is an adjective meaning to convey by hint, euphemism, innuendo or the like!
Pertaining to, or characteristic of Aesop or his fables!

Antiphonal –
NO! It is not someone who is against using Phones!
It is a performance style in which an ensemble is divided into two or more groups, performing alternately as separate groups and in unison.

See! Words can be FUN!! But it is truly a matter of what you do with them that counts!

Next time you see yourself looking for a way to say something “fresh” or “new” – why don’t you grab those websites and see what kind of words you can come up with! Or better yet, subscribe to their word of the day and learn a new word every day for the rest of your life! It could be fun in an intellectual way…

What is YOUR favorite word!

Thanks for listening….
