Patience

"Patience is a virtue". We all know the maxim, and curse it at times, but do we know the origin? There are conflicting opinions, especially if you google the origin! One theory is Piers Plowman in 1377 coined the phrase while another theory is Chaucer's "The Franklin Tale". You can even trace back the meaning of virtue had "patience" in it in Aristotle's teachings. But do we really believe Patience is a Virtue? Is it a "good" thing to aspire to and does it help us get better at patience to remember it as a quote/proverb/maxim/adage that adds meaning to our lives?

I've always had a love/hate relationship with patience. I believe it is becoming increasingly difficult to remain patient when our society has come to expect so many things to happen as "instant". We surf the internet and buy items. We google and find out information, sometimes good and correct, sometimes bad and completely wrong. But with everything seemingly "at our fingertips" is it any wonder that patience is starting to become "thin" at times? An increasingly elusive commodity due to the instant gratification model perpetuating in our society? I wonder if anyone else will agree...

I also have a lot of things that I do seem to have tons of patience for like creating jewelry designs, crocheting, fixing a computer, researching information and so on. BUT - there are always exceptions to those items as well! I guess depending on my mood of the day!

It's like a lot of people want to lose weight fast. Sure enough, I would love to as well. But it isn't always possible, physically and yet we lose our patience if things don't work out fast enough. I know that there are times the scale makes me feel impatience...Sometimes you just have to breathe through it! LOL

I think that we should remember that sometimes the best things in life require cultivation and nurturing over a long period of time. Relationships require lots of patience and cultivation and nurturing, whether it is a friendship or a significant other. It is important to take the time to see the world through the eyes of patience. If you are constantly looking past today and into tomorrow, you'll forget to see the beauty of a sunrise or a sunset along the beach...

Patience is indeed to be aspired to and I, for one, will continue my relationship with the process...how do you get along with patience? LOL
