What is my fascination with shows that have forensic science in them? I just don't get it or even understand. I'm honestly not fascinated by death, of course it scares me as much as the next person, but the forensic science is fascinating! I am not sure it is the "science" behind it because I was never interested in doing it myself, that's for sure, lab rat is not for me! However, the psychological dramas and the forensic science are just mesmerizing to me!
I've been told they are depressing and morbid and not at all like real life. I agree with the real life part, but this is tv, it's not real and we all know it is cooked up drama that may have been patterned after a story, but not copied. But the investigation of it, the solving of the crime or the evidence of it is just so fascinating I find myself being enticed into the shows!
One of the first shows I can remember being fascinated by was Quincy. There was something about the character of Jack Klugman that made forensics quite interesting and charismatic! The drama had all of the ingredients for success and made it wonderful to watch and be interested in the final outcome! There is something about the journey the show takes you on that draws you into their world and fills you with that sitting on the edge of your seat thrill wanting to find the resolution. Sometimes with heart beating, sometimes with surprise twists, always trying to be one step ahead but trying to use the scientific clues they feed you to figure it out before the climactic outcome.
I'm not just enthralled with forensic science shows though, it's psychological drama, police procedural drama, medical melodrama, forensic anthropology, and let's not even discuss the fast-paced drama of 24! OMG! Why? What is it that drives me to watch these shows?
Yes, I know that there are tons of things that go on behind the scenes in real life aren't in the show, but it's tv and needs to be entertaining! Otherwise, why would I tune in? The characters also need to be engaging and likeable, have flaws and be somewhat redeemable when they screw up.
One of my favorites, Criminal Minds, deals with the psychology behind the crimes and the thought processes behind the solving of the crimes. It hypnotizes me with the way the BAU profiles both the victims and the killers along with the journey to get to the final profile, their stumbles, wrong information that turns the profile bad and so on, and so on.
Bones, CSI, Criminal Minds, Body of Evidence, Dexter, Medical Investigation (an older one), Crossing Jordan, Grey's Anatomy, ER, the Profiler, The Closer, just to name a few that have enchanted me with their drama, melodrama and the interaction of the characters and their stories.
Maybe it's the heightened emotions it brings out in me, maybe its the adrenaline rush I get when I watch the show. But I sure know one thing, I feel challenged allowing my brain to think along with the progress of the show, trying to figure out where the clues lead me and coming up with the answer before the show does!!
Or is it just my horrible need to win...just saying...

not sure I know how to agree any more with you after reading that..!! I'm obsessed with Law and Order... all of them!!!
